Where I Post My Work

Science Labs

  BLOB TEST:

Hypothesis:   If we try to make blobs with these pens, then the Crayola pen will fail.  It is because the BIC and generic pens have a ballpoint tip and the Crayola marker has a felt tip.

Results:  A- 5, B- 5, C- 1

 WET TEST:

Hypothesis: If we mix ink with water, then this experiment would be a bust. All of the pens dots will slowly fade away.  It is because ink is made of materials that water can dissolve.

 Results: A-5, B-4, C-1

 SMEAR TEST:

Hypothesis: If we test all subjects, I think then only test subject C (crayola) will fail. When I test the other subjects, I will get perfect fives.  It is because marker ink is thicker than others.

 Scores: A- 5, B-4, C-5

 WRITING TEST:

Hypothesis: If we test all these subjects, then test subject C ( crayola) woukld look the best.  A and B will look and feel nice.  It is because A and B have thinner tips.

 Scores: A- 5, B- 5, C- 5

 UPSIDE-DOWN WRITING TEST:

Hypothesis: I don't see how this test is different than the writing test.  If I test the pen upside-down, then it won't make a difference. It is because the ink is pressured to come out.

 Scores: A- 2, B-3, C- 5

 WRITING SURFACE TEST:

Hypothesis: If we test these surfaces, then I am sure that we will get different resuts.  It is because that different tips will affect different surfaces.

 Scores- A- 5/ 5/ 4/ 1, B- 5/5 / 4/ 1, C- 5/ 5/ 5/ 3

CONCLUSION:

I learned that BIC was clearly the best pen.  My hypothesis was wrong.  New pens do work better than old ones.  This experiment reminded me of when I tried to see what kind of baseball worked the best.  I wonder if the scores would vary with different tests?

 Chips Ahoy Challenge

ESTIMATE:  20 Per Cookie and 960 per Bag

Hypothesis:  If I test one cookie, then I will know how many chips are in a bag because all I have to do is multiply our results by 48.

Chip Tally: We have counted 38 chips in one cookie

CONCLUSION:

We learned that the Chips AHoy cookie lived up to its name with 1024 chocolate chips to a bag.  My hypothesis was way off.  It turns out that there were 38 chips in one cookie.  This reminded me of the time when I counted stitches on a baseball because I did not believe what anyone else had said.  I wonder how many chips there are in a factory?
